In May 1998, Damien Daley was arrested on a minor charge of criminal damage after going on a drunken binge.
When he was in police custody he tried to telephone his mother. Nothing unusual about that you might say,
except that Daley's mother had died two years previously. Daley made his
witness statement against Michael Stone less than a year prior to this bizarre incident, which begs
the question, was his mental state anymore reliable when he claimed to have heard Stone
shout his confession through the cell wall? Could he have been hallucinating rather than
simply lying?
Below is the transcription of Daley's questioning by the police followed by
two brief witness statements. These documents were scanned from Michael Stone's
legal papers.
